Ellen S. Friedell, Esq.

Ellen S. Friedell is a founder and principal of Reaching Agreement ADR LLC, a dispute resolution firm.  She is an attorney with extensive litigation and litigation management experience and has a record of achieving excellent, cost-effective results in the courts as well as resolving disputes through creative and skilled use of alternative dispute resolution, especially negotiation and mediation.
She was previously an Associate General Counsel for Rohm and Haas Company, an international chemical company headquartered in Philadelphia, where she had wide-ranging responsibilities focusing on high stakes, complex litigation in many areas including environmental, insurance coverage, class actions, contracts and other business disputes, mass tort, antitrust, asbestos, employment, criminal, products liability and personal injury. She also has conducted negotiations concerning major legislation with federal officials, Congressional staff and other interested parties.
She also served as a trial lawyer for the United States Civil Aeronautics Board and the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Ms. Friedell is a strategic leader, with excellent teaching and mentoring skills, who has led and served on multi-disciplinary teams that included scientists as well as experts in finance, accounting, public relations and other disciplines.  She has supervised attorneys and has worked extensively with outstanding trial and appellate counsel at law firms.
Ms. Friedell received a B.A. from Brandeis University in 1970, magna cum laude with honors in psychology, and a J.D. from the Washington College of Law of American University in 1973, where she was an Associate Editor of the Law Review.  She completed advanced training in mediation at the Center for Dispute Settlement in Washington, D.C.
She serves as a Judge Pro Tempore assisting the court and the parties in resolving disputes pending in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.
Ms. Friedell is on the Board of Trustees of the Settlement Music School and received the School’s Founders Award for outstanding volunteer service in 2009.  She also represents individuals under the Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program.

Ellen S. She was previously Associate General Counsel for Rohm and Haas Company, a Fortune 500 multinational chemical company, where she was responsible for the company’s litigation worldwide as well as regulatory and employment law.  

 Ms. Friedell focused on high-stakes, complex litigation and investigations in many areas including environmental, insurance, class actions, contracts and other business disputes, mass tort, antitrust, asbestos, employment, criminal, products liability and personal injury.   She also served as a negotiator regarding environmental and other federal legislation, and led multi-disciplinary, diverse teams.

 

She began her legal career as a trial attorney with the United States Civil Aeronautics Board and the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Ms. Friedell is a 1970 graduate of Brandeis University, with a B.A. magna cum laude with honors in psychology, and received a J.D. from American University in 1973, where she was Associate Editor of the Law Review.  She completed advanced training in mediation at the Center for Dispute Settlement in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Friedell is the President of the Board of Trustees of the Settlement Music School, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia and a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association.  She represents individuals under the Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program.

She is a member of the bar of Pennsylvania with an AV rating from Martindale & Hubbell, its highest rating.
